VMASC is excited to feature Russell Moore, Integration Specialist/Computer Programmer, who started working at VMASC right after his graduation from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Science in Information Science last summer. Working at VMASC is Russell’s first official professional job!

“I actually first heard about VMASC through a professor my senior year of college and I came on as a student researcher. I did that for two semesters part-time and worked on a project with Dr. Saikou Diallo, Dr. Krzysztof Rechowicz, and Alex Nielsen,” Russell said.

Having started working professionally not long ago, Russell has already had some great accomplishments. “The first project I joined was based on software I was unfamiliar with and built in a language that was new to me. I had to go through and understand the algorithm, working my way through the stack and collaborating with other developers in order to get a grasp on what it would take to effectively reach deliverables,” Russell said. “The skills I accumulated throughout that process have been essential during my involvement with new and existing projects.” Now, Russell is the lead developer on a new project!

So far working at VMASC has been a great experience for Russell. “I really enjoy the people I work with. I see them and VMASC as a community. They have high expectations of me, and they expect me to reach the goals that are set. I know everyone will support me and push me to do my best. I really couldn’t ask for more out of a workplace,” Russell said.

For the future, Russell sees himself becoming a strategist – to create strategy around changing various operations with a system. “I want to become proficient at system designs and taking initiatives on things that I see fit,” Russell said. And we know he will be successful and reach his goals!
