Research

VMASC is a secure research facility housing a research staff of over 70 research faculty, project scientists, support professionals, and students performing advanced research using state-of-the-art technologies across three research and engagement sites in the Hampton Roads region of southeast Virginia. The Suffolk facility, and home base for VMASC, is a secure 60,000 sq. ft. research and conference center.

OUR MISSION

We digitally transform technologies into everyday practice.

The Center began over twenty years ago as a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the Commonwealth of Virginia to create an academic center of innovation in modeling and simulation (M&S) to support joint experimentation and training at the U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) in Suffolk. While computational modeling is a constant in everything VMASC does, the Center’s activities have expanded over the past twenty years.

VMASC’s research staff includes over 70 research faculty, scientists, support professionals, and students that perform scientific research, develop computational models, and create information-to-insight and digital engineering solutions in the research domains of cybersecurity and critical infrastructure systems, digital shipbuilding, spaceflight and autonomy, digital health and health equity, policy and decision-making, mission engineering and integration, and warfighter performance and readiness.

  • 60,000 sq. ft. High-Tech Research Center

  • 25,000+ sq. ft. of Dedicated Research Laboratory Space

  • 70+ Research Faculty and Staff

  • Home to One of the Largest Modular Lab Spaces

  • Secure Physical and Digital Storage and Processing Architecture

  • Internal Network Servers with Web-Enabled Database Services

OUR PROJECTS

What differentiates VMASC from other research institutions is our ability to convert studies and analysis into integrative “whole picture” solutions which conceptualize systems and provide actionable insight based on stakeholder needs, capabilities, and missions.

From training and behavioral systems for workforce modernization to tailor-made software, hardware, and hybrid applications, we develop and build resources that allow us to modernize and empower our clients to turn knowledge into action.

VMASC is the only place I've found where this type of radically multi-disciplinary collaboration is not only possible, but thrilling.
