June 23, 2022VMASC is excited to feature Patrick Ball, Senior Project Scientist and Projects Manager. Having grown up in a military family, Patrick has moved all over the country, but settled in Hampton Roads in 2007.
He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Elizabeth City State University, a prominent HBCU in North Carolina where he learned a love of technical writing that he took into the professional world.
Since then, Patrick has spent the last 15 years taking on more and more challenging roles as a technical writer, training specialist, equipment specialist, maintenance analyst, database analyst, knowledge manager, and proposal manager.
All this experience came together perfectly to fit his position as a Senior Project Scientist and Projects Manager for the Capabilities Laboratory here at VMASC. “I absolutely love working here. Every day, I get to leverage my skills to improve processes here and make a real impact on some of the amazing projects and initiatives we have going on – and you couldn’t ask for more capable and professional coworkers!”
Patrick is also heavily involved in our Hoffler Creek Internship Summer STEM Program where students learn about STEM based entrepreneurship in the fields of ecology and environmental science. On top of that and his regular job duties, Patrick is also planning a summer camp where students utilize the Kerbal Space Program game to learn about design and engineering.
Patrick and his lovely wife D’An have two kids, Ryan and Laszlo. In his free time, Patrick enjoys table-top role playing, video games, 3d printing, and riding on his electric scooter at warp speed!
