WHAT WE DO
We integrate digital technologies into everyday practices through digital transformation.
As one of the world's leading research centers for computer modeling, simulation, and visualization, we solve real-world problems and develop new approaches to representing physical, social, and human systems in simulation.
We focus on solutions driven by the needs of our stakeholder groups. Whether stakeholders are in industry, the public sector, or the scholarly community, we design tools custom-fit to the contexts of their use.
HOW WE ADD VALUE
Computational Models
Our team of scientists expertly generates computational models for systems analytics and complex data projection and uses cutting-edge theory to incorporate human factors, such as emotion, behaviors, and cultural standards.
Cyber-Physical Systems
Our expertise in cyber-physical systems allows us to assist partners in retrofitting outdated technologies with new innovative solutions and creating digital engineering pipelines to make working solutions increase productivity, efficiency, and safety.
Information-to-Insight Solutions
Our researchers and scientists generate applicable, material insights to move models beyond theory and understanding into actionability while also developing innovative solutions for decision-making processes.
TOOLS & SOLUTIONS
We develop solutions for the problems and questions of tomorrow.
VMASC researchers develop solutions for the problems and questions of tomorrow. As our clients' needs evolve and become more complex, we build tools to address logistics, modernization, and optimization with a mission for future growth.
Our dynamic staff includes developers, designers, artists, and user experience professionals who collaborate with industry experts and future users to develop tools and software that are highly usable, accessible, and impactful.
VMASC researchers are proud of our outreach activities, such as our STEM/STEAM education programs. We aim to make tools accessible to everybody – agnostic of age, discipline, or platform.
KPI Pro
Website
ABOUT: Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are becoming an essential part of a manufacturing organization’s ability to monitor and ensure its strategic health. Furthermore, selecting the right mix of KPIs in line with an organization’s strategic goals is also essential. This database tool was created to support a KPI assessment method for manufacturing developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
-
Analyzes Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
-
Considers organization needs, stakeholders, goals, capabilities, and resources
-
Useful for developers and managers
-
Designate and track efficient, on-mission business objectives
-
CRISM
Website
ABOUT: ODU researchers at the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute, a Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, developed a new software tool that provides a security risk assessment of a company’s cyberinfrastructure. The Cyber Risk Scoring and Mitigation (CRISM) tool measures the software and hardware’s security capabilities that comprise a company’s cyberinfrastructure.
-
Optimized for vulnerability detection, attack graph analysis, & risk assessment
-
Supports diverse network configurations and dynamic scaling
-
Provides options to choose among risk assessment models
-
Provides quantitative risk assessment and categorizes attack paths based on the impact of vulnerabilities
-
Illustrates the security risk scores via different visual metaphors
-
RtePM
Website
ABOUT: The Real-time evacuation Planning Model (RtePM, or “Route –P-M”) estimates the time required for evacuating vehicles to clear a user-defined area for various evacuation scenarios. The number and speed of evacuating vehicles are determined by user-assigned or modified variables, such as the time of day when an evacuation starts, evacuation rate, the population’s participation rate, and the number of people per vehicle, using parameters provided within the model.
-
Collect, process, and store traffic network and behavior model parameters
-
Accept and verify parameters specified to generate traffic flow and clearance times
-
Generate traffic flow information and clearance times
-
Maintain a repository of public and private evacuation scenarios
-
Inject static data and pre-set traffic conditions
-
CLOUDES
Website
ABOUT: CLOUDES’ goal is to make simulation available to anyone. The developers chose discrete-event simulations because they are the simplest to create as they relate to observable and measurable systems. Basic requirements were: accessible to mobile devices and ease of use. Simulation tools are usually made by experts for experts; therefore, the developers created a tool with non-experts in mind. CLOUDES is a VMASC/ODU initiative to support STEM education and M&S entrepreneurship.
-
Create conceptual models and convert them to simulations
-
Built-in counters for direct data collection
-
Drag-drop-connect for an intuitive user experience
-
Design area available in Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Turkish
